Skills We Help Your Child Build
Making Sense of the World
(Sensory Integration)
Helping your child process sensory inputs like touch, sound, and movement, so they feel comfortable with clothing tags, cafeteria noise, playground play, and new foods.
Big Moves
(Gross Motor Skills)
Strengthening big muscles for better posture, running, climbing, kicking a ball, and bike riding to boost balance and coordination.
Teamwork for Two Hands
(Bilateral Integration)
Teaching hands to work together for tasks like cutting with scissors, catching a ball, zipping a coat, or tying shoes.
Visual Perceptual Skills
Helping your child interpret what they see, like finding toys, completing puzzles, distinguishing letters, spacing words, or copying from a whiteboard.
Thinking and Doing
(Self-Care & Independence)
Guiding your child to plan and execute new tasks, like navigating obstacle courses, swinging, or building a Lego set independently.
Thinking Skills
Building problem-solving skills for tasks like dressing in order, opening lunch containers, following multi-step instructions, and learning colors or shapes.
Little Moves
(Fine Motor Skills)
Developing hand and finger strength for school tasks like holding a pencil, cutting, drawing, writing their name, or buttoning clothes.
Paying Attention
(Attention & Concentration)
Strengthening focus to unlock all other skills, helping your child stay on task despite distractions, a foundation for learning and growth.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Process Sensory Input: Respond more appropriately to sights, sounds, and touches to better support learning and calm.
- Improve Motor Skills: Develop fine motor skills for tasks like handwriting and using utensils, and gross motor skills for running and jumping.
- Strengthen Coordination: Enhance eye-hand coordination for play (like batting a ball) and school skills (like copying from a board).
- Gain Independence: Master life skills such as dressing, bathing, brushing teeth, and self-feeding.
- Build Social Skills: Learn positive behaviors and practice managing frustration and anger.
- Access Tools: Source specialised equipment (like splints or adaptive tools) to build independence.
Our practice operates on a Hybrid Payment Model to navigate these complexities:
- Medical Aid Rates (DSP): For medical aids we are contracted with, we bill them directly at their negotiated rate.
- Co-Payments / Shortfalls: Some medical aid plans only cover a portion of the session cost. In these cases, the patient is responsible for the remaining balance (co-payment). This balance is payable on the day of the session.
- Non-Contracted Medical Aids: For medical aids we are not contracted with, our full private fee is due upfront. We will provide you with a detailed invoice to claim back from your medical aid yourself. The amount they reimburse will depend on your specific plan's "out-of-network" benefits.
- Contacting your medical aid before your first session to confirm:
- If your plan covers Occupational Therapy.
- If we are a Designated Service Provider (DSP) for your specific plan.
- What your annual limits are for OT.
- If your plan requires any co-payments for allied health services.
The most important thing to know is that OT is fun! It is NOT like a doctor's visit. To a child, our session feels like play. To a parent watching, it looks like purposeful play. But behind the fun is expert clinical reasoning—every activity is chosen to target specific goals. We create a safe space where it's okay to try, fail, and succeed without fear, reducing anxiety so active learning can take place.
If the therapeutic goal is to build independence, we will work with you on a gentle "exit plan" to support your child in this transition. We believe in a team approach, which sometimes includes school visits or meetings.
We will help you prioritize and navigate the process. We'll listen to your concerns and honestly tell you if OT is the best place to start. If it's not, we'll refer you to a trusted professional who can help.
The best first step is a conversation. Contact us for further questions to discuss your concerns.
